Teachers know and understand the content area for which they have instructional responsibility.
Having come from industry I know the pressures and expectations of the graphic designer in field. I know what it takes to make it in this field and what the relevant skill sets are to have. As I am still practicing in the field and have an excellent advisory committee, I have my finger on the pulse of what is needed for the future as well.
I have structure the course in a way that scaffolds learning for students and engages them in the craft of design, preparing students for industry and teaching state content standards.
Shown is an example of a pacing guide created for all four CTE classes aligned to the WebXam content, so that by the completion of the course the students would have the necessary knowledge to pass the WebXam.
Student Work Sample: Audubon Bird Abstraction Assignment 
In this assignment, students were prompted to create a new simplified and abstracted version of an Audubon bird using simple shapes only and the shape maker tool in Illustrator. This exercises purpose was to teach the basics of illustration. Eventually, the students moved on to illustrating much more complex illustrations.
