Standard 6.
Teachers collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators and the community to support student learning.
Collaboration and communication is key to running an efficient and effective program. Being an advocate for my students is my favorite role as a teacher. This includes being their most vocal ally when it comes to administration and budgets.
Some big wins we have had in the program are equipment and software upgrades. Over the past two years we have purchased new computer systems, new laptops for the students to check out for at home work and acquired the latest software for those systems.
We even received a large donation from one of our advisory committee members: Marcus Thomas. That is how well our students communicated how enthusiastic they were to learn design.
It takes more than one teacher, it takes a group of teachers, a team of administrators and a community of support to keep our program going strong.
